DBT Skills Group for deeper trauma work, sobriety, and managing life’s anxieties.
How it works
DBT Skills Group is a 24-week, in-person skills training group that covers all four modules of Dialectical Behavior Therapy:
Mindfulness
Distress Tolerance
Emotion Regulation
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Commitment to the group is for 8-week modules at a time, with new members joining at the beginning of a module.
We get started with a consultation call to explore questions about group and plan the start date. Before starting group, we meet for an individual intake session to set expectations and make a commitment to the group.
Sessions blend structured skills teaching with collaboration about how those skills land in everyday life.
We learn the skills together and learn from each other as we discuss the application, the challenges, and successes of skill application.
Members work with handouts, complete skills practice, and discuss implementation through diary card review.
Work in between sessions to integrate skills and note the experience with skills practice is an important part of creating a space for accountability and support within the group.
This group will meet in person at our office on Thursdays from 6:00pm-7:15pm.
The intention of this group is to use the evidence-based framework of DBT and make it relatable and sustainable in everyday life.
DBT can sometimes feel clinical and mechanical, like working through a manual rather than actually learning something useful. We seek to teach skills in a way that's digestible, and we talk about what's working, what isn't, and how to actually apply this stuff to real life.
It's structured enough to move through the material with intention, but collaborative enough that members learn from each other, not just from group leader. The focus is on practical application.
Who is this for?
-

This group is designed for adults 18 and older engaged in individual therapy who are ready to build coping skills and put them to use.
-

It's a good fit for people working on recovery from addiction, managing anxiety or rumination, or navigating anger in ways that feel out of control.
-

Also a strong complement to individual therapy, particularly for clients doing EMDR work who want to strengthen their coping resources before engaging in deeper processing.
-

People who tend to thrive here are generally stable and functioning in their daily lives, and are looking for structure, community, and a concrete set of tools to manage life more effectively.
-

Group is skills-focused and forward-moving, and works best for those who are ready to show up and do the work between sessions.
